After researching many months on available wireless thermostats I bought this because it was easy to install and doesn't require 24v common wire. In fact this is the only unit that doesn't require 24V common wire. Installation was easy as expected, but was very disappointed with the materials, which are cheap plastics and felt flimsy. I am an engineer and computer scientist, and even I had difficult time programming this device. It was poorly designed, not intuitive, and instructions are poorly written.

We are controlling 4 units , which equals 30 tons ,with one controller and two remotes wall units . The system works seamlessly .

I replaced my current thermostat with the Venstar to move the temperature sensor to a better place and solve uneven temperature control throughout the house. A closed hallway door and no returns was the main cause of this.

Documentation did not provide the correct wiring hookup for a Trane AC system. The website had no tech support telephone number. Fortunately, some one promptly answered my emails and gave me the correct information. (818-341-8760) They really need to add this information to their manual and web site.

Internal setup to the transmitter is a little tricky and requires careful reading of the manual. I also found the temperature readings displayed on the transmitter off,but was able to easily re-calibrate.

This thermostat seems to have solved my uneven temperature problem. Hopefully this will also reduce the run time on the AC system cut my electric bill.

I ordered two of these thermostats to solve a specific problem, and they have done the job nicely so far. My problem was that I have two heating units in my house, each of which was controlled by a separate, wall-mounted thermostat. The thermostats were mounted on the same wall in an open hall area, and therefore never seemed to keep the temperature right in rooms that we actually used most of the time. My HVAC guy recommended another setup, but I felt the Venstar units were right for what we wanted.

I installed them myself, and found the installation not too complicated, but care must be taken to insure that you wire the base units properly. (I asked my HVAC guy to come in and check my wiring job after installation, just to be sure.) We then took the remote units to rooms in which we spend most of our time at home in the evenings: the family room and the master bedroom. The result: a much-improved comfort level.

Caveats: We have not been running these 'stats long enough to be able to determine the effect on our heating fuel bills. Also, their longevity is uncertain.

But overall, they are doing exactly what I wanted and I am pleased.

I am so pleased with this product! Our original thermostat was installed in the small hallway to the garage door. I don't know what the architect was thinking, but this little section was isolated and had its own temperature. Not to mention opening the door to the garage set the AC/Heat off immediately, winter or summer. Not good for wear and tear on the HVAC and not good for my electric bill. We couldn't get the rest of the house to a comfortable temperature. But the Venstar system has been a blessing. It was very easy to install. Just match wires from the old thermostat and attach to the wall. The remote thermostat now sits in our central family room and the house is a consistent temperature throughout. The thermostat gives you the option to change the deadband (difference between set temperature and how many degrees before the system activates again). This is great! Most thermostats have a 1 degree deadband, but mine is set to 2 degrees and this keeps the air down to 1-2 cycles per hour and gives efficient operation of the A/C (15 minutes or more). I've read this is great for your HVAC. I totally love this lifesaver! Highly recommend if your builder put your thermostat in that "not so brilliant" location! I do agree that there could be an easier menu/mode set-up, but once you learn it, it is not hard. Still does not detract from a 5-star rating for its overall performance!

It does exactly what it says it will do without any problems. If I want it a bit warmer or cooler all I have to do is pick up the unit and change it.
Should have purchased it long ago.
