old controller died,$10(approx) more for this unit is well worth it.Had to run 24 v constant power to control, which is worth it since it has diagnostics&status indicators.

Manual humidistats required us to make adjustments every couple of days depending on the weather. We have a lot of wood in the house so we need to keep the moisture level as high as possible. As it would get colder during the night or even during some of the days we had to adjust the humidistats to keep the water from condensing on the windows. With the #58 we just set it and made small adjustments so there wouldn't be any condensation on the windows. If it gets warmer or colder outside, we don't have to do a thing anymore.

Works perfectly unless you hook up a furnace's HUM terminal directly to humidistat terminals. Doesn't appreciate 120V coming into a 24V circuit. Pops, sparks and dies! New one works flawlessly and holds the humidity level set, unlike the manual models I have had in the past.

this was a replacement for another "aprilaire" 600 which was a new heat pump installation. The 600 model was exposed and only last 3-4years.

Simple directions, easy install replacement for original AprilAire humidistat.
Although packaged for installation by a HVAC technician, it's simple enough to do if you have a basic understanding of making electrical connections, a basic toolkit (drill, 3/4" bit, screwdrivers) plus some simple supplies (2-conductor wire, wire caps, zip ties, self-tapping screws).

I replaced a manual Aprilaire controller and had to cover a large rectangular hole in the duct with sheet metal and drill a smaller hole for the new #58 unit to fit. The #58 comes with a thermistor, so I didn't have to buy one separately which I did because the literature didn't say what was included in the box. Other than that, the installation went smoothly and I'm happy with the product. I'd recommend the #58 to anyone handy enough to patch and drill sheet metal.

This Humidistat works great with my General Filters whole house humidifier. I had the older model auto stat at my old house and when we moved this was a no brainer upgade. With this humidistat and the sensor mounted outside you won't have to worry about those windows getting wet or the house getting to dry. This thing works and it make life alot easier.
Comments about Aprilaire Aprilaire #58 Humidistat:
My aprilaire humidifier/humidistat that was installed along with my furnace in a our new home in 2007 started malfunctioning by making the home overly humid in the cold winter months. I live in northwest Indiana (Chicago area) in a very well insulated home with R50+ total in attic and R20+ total in walls, and on brutally cold days the windows and walls would be dripping with moisture. I found that the cheap aprilaire mechanical humidistat would not correctly determine the humidity level in the house, it seemed that it would only turn on or off manually around 30% humidity. I replaced it with the #58 humidistat along with the outdoor sensor, which was a pain to run the wiring, but was well worth the trouble. My home is more comfortable than it ever has been in the winter. I have the dial set in the middle number of the normal range. It keeps at a 30-40% level mainly except for 0 degree or lower nights where the humidity level may decline. I love the "set it and leave it" mentality it provides and it makes adjustments automatically according to outdoor temperature.

I replaced the original nylon band control with this digital model. The fact that it was controlled by outside temp was appealing since I did not want to keep adjusting the manual control all the time as temperature drops and the heater runs more often. This seems to keep the humidty constant within a few points and does not over humidify if I forget to change the manual control as mentioned above.

Much better step-up from #56. I installed this with the older model 700 (Almond color) and it works beautifully.

Comments about Aprilaire Aprilaire #58 Humidistat:
The old one didn't require constant 24 volts. Needed to modify the wireing diagram to add jumpers wires to tie the switched 24 v to the constant 24 v screw connectors. Now it works when the furnace is turned on.
Comments about Aprilaire Aprilaire #58 Humidistat:
Used in place of manual Honeywell controller so that outside temperature was sensed automatically.

Comments about Aprilaire Aprilaire #58 Humidistat:
Upgraded from controller that came with Unit (Aprilaire 700) which had quit working after 5 years. Installation was very easy using the included directions. Extra wiring was simple and well displayed in paperwork. When I called with a question it was answered quickly and informatively. I like this controller much better than the original because it actually displays the humidity in RH form on the controller. Much easier to tell if it is working and when to change the filter or call for service. Overall I'm satisfied!

Comments about Aprilaire Aprilaire #58 Humidistat:
I bought this to replace my failing Aprilaire #56 humidistat. After doing some homework and contacting a local heating/cooling shop, I found out that the #56 model was garbage to begin with and nobody even stocks them anymore. So I decided to upgrade to the #58. I was happy to see that eventhough this humidistat has a nice display, they didn't raise the price from what they were charging for my old broken one. Installation was not to big of a deal since I was replacing an old one. The only big difference is that this unit requires a constant 24v source whereas the old one did not. To make it work I had to go down to my local electical supplier and buy a 120v to 24v converter (about $20) and wire it in off of the incoming power to the furnace blower area. I was thinking I needed this "special converter" but it turns out that the converter is the same voltage as a door bell converter...go figure. I've been using this for about 2 months now and it seems to be working nicely.

I purchased the April Air 600A a couple months ago. Although pretty much a straight forward install, You will have to do some measuring, have some sheetmetal cutting tools, and be comfortable with running some electrical from the humidistat to your hvac unit. After a couple adjustments to get the humidity level where we wanted, we ran the unit with no problems for the remainder of the heating season.
As for the automatic control, I would definately get it. That way you don't have to mess with having to re-adjust your settings every time the weather changes.
It definately works well. After a couple days, the humidity level came up in our house and we stopped getting shocked by everything we touched.
